Project Details:

East Orange County Water District began construction in spring of 2023 on the replacement of the OC-43 Walnut Turnout Vault, an underground meter vault, on Walnut Ave. near the intersection of Newport Ave. The construction included replacement of the vault, pipes and valves. The project also included the addition of a new meter and new controls.


Construction hours were 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and some Saturdays.

Construction concluded in the summer of 2023.

During Construction:
  • All businesses were open during construction.

  • One street lane was closed 24-Hours per day during length of project.

  • Additional street lanes may have been restricted.

  • Pedestrian access was still available.

  • Open trench excavation.

  • Increased truck and construction traffic.

  • Noise, dust and vibrations.

  • Neighborhood streets remained open during construction.

  • Signs were posted if any temporary parking restrictions were necessary.

Project Benefits:
  • The new vault is larger to facilitate maintenance activities and it has improved access.

  • A new meter, motorized isolation valve and controls were added.

Why was the Project Needed?

This project replaced the vault and associated piping that is believed to have been constructed in the 1960s.
