Smart Meters Are Coming to EOCWD

EOCWD is upgrading all customer water meters to new smart meters that provide real-time usage data, leak alerts, and improved billing accuracy.

Project Overview â€‹â€‹

  • EOCWD is replacing all retail customers meters with Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) also know as Smart Meters.​

  • These meters send readings automatically to the District and a new Customer Portal. 

​​

  • No more manual meter reading, and customers get easy online access to water usage data.

When

  • Project expected to start in 2025

  • Crews will replace meters at each property, usually in under an hour 

​

  • Customers will be notified before installation 

​​

  • Temporary water interruptions may occur (typically less than 30 minutes

  • All ​1,210 customers in EOCWD's Panorama Heights (North Tustin) Retail Zone will get new meters.

  • A new customer portal will launch where customers can view daily/hourly usage, set alerts, and compare to water budgets

Q: Do I need to be home during installation?

A: No, but you'll be notified before work begins.

Q: Will this impact my water bill?

A: Your bill will continue to reflect your actual water use. The new meters just make it more accurate.

Q: Is my data secure?

A: Yes, usage data is encrypted and protected.

EPA Funding Statement

This project is partially financed by the grant funding administered by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through EPA’s Community Grant Program. This project will replace existing meters with digital meters to better detect leaks and bring about conservation awareness for community residents in the EOCWD retail water service area.
